Twill Curves Cycloid in pale berber and violet
This is one of a series of rugs based on the idea of weaving twill on opposites and not progressing the twill in the normal manner. Instead the design is generated by shifting the twill repeats systematically to make repeating curves. This design is based on a curve called the cycloid which is the path a point on the edge of a rolling wheel traces out. This is the simplest and, in my opinion, the most beautiful of a whole series of curves generated by tracing the movements of points on gear wheels. 2-2 twill weave. Cotton warp, carpet wool weft. Finish Damascus edge.
