Supplejack 56
Exhibition piece for PWN Ngahere

This is the full scale version of this design (Test Piece for PWN Ngahere exhibition Supplejack above). I did not redrawn the design but was able to put in more thinner and detailed vines into the design. The three tree trunks were woven with berbers chosen to imitate their barks. The background colour was the result of a complex exercise in dying based on six colours which were abstracted from a photograph I took in the bush. These were green, grass green, black, brown and, surprisingly, aubergine. A combination of dropping onto, splashing, mixing and painting on to the coiled weft created a highly varied brownish green result. The photos do not quite do justice to it. Decoratively one sided. Three end block weave with shaft switching and hand manipulation and kilim technique. Cotton warp, carpet wool weft. Finish Damascus edge. 880 x 1550 mm. Sold.
