Stacked Skewed Sine Waves / North Island Beach in Greys and Blues

The colours of this rug were inspired by the New Zealand North Island beaches south of Mt. Taranaki with their dark volcanic sands, rich in iron. The waves motifs are sine waves skewed and stacked up to symbolise the beach and the waves. This motif was partly based on a design by Nina Floderhaus in VAV magazine. The complex striping of the greys and the blues repeat at different rates, which adds texture and visual interest, mimicking how beaches always seem to have lines of colour, texture and debris roughly parallel to the water. Three end block weave with shaft switching. Cotton warp, carpet wool weft. Finish Damascus edge.
