Penrose Tiling 2 design 1

Penrose tiling, a discovery of Rodger Penrose, covers a plane with shapes (tiles) with local 5 fold symmetry, something classically thought not possible. It has since been found to happen in nature in metallic glasses. It uses two tiles, called kites (red) and darts (yellow), and more than one arrangement is possible. This arrangement was chosen as it shows off the 5 fold symmetry with the star and pentagon shapes, the other arrangement seems at first glance more random. The whole design as woven is compressed top to bottom, a miscalculation. Decoratively one sided. Three end block weave with shaft switching and hand manipulation. Cotton warp, carpet wool weft. Finish Damascus edge.
