Experimental warp
Freehand verses stripes “Pushing the technique”
The pictures are of the two sides of the same rug. Taking advantage of this weave structure’s extreme separation of the wefts on different blocks, (in most weaves, some of each shows through in the other block) I decided to have all of one side of the rug as one block. The striped side was the side I could not see as I wove and was woven with a weft about twice as thick as the wefts for the front side. The front side was woven with a double throw of the pale weft for the plain area at the start and finish. The design was done free hand with a dark green weft clasped around the pale weft coming in from the edges. Two throws of the thin wefts match one of the thicker weft on the back. Two warp rug weave based on tabby with 4 blocks and hand manipulation. Cotton stuffer warp, carpet wool weft and weaving warp. Finish philippine edge with weaving warps darned back in.
