Dragon Po
This design was inspired by the white dragon in a mahjong set and was drawn up by Jenny Gatehouse who also helped with the conversion to a shaft switching plan. It was woven in red on a pale grey background as a reference to my Welsh ancestry. The choice of skip twill was intended to give a scales effect of the grey weaving warp on the red weft whereas it disappears on the grey. While the two wefts are of the same thickness, the grey has more loft giving a slight 3D effect with the red dragon set into the surface. Very much a design pushing the limits of the weaving technique.
The two warp rug weave based on 2-2 twill skip on 3s with shaft switching. Cotton stuffer warp, carpet wool weaving warp and wefts. Finish modified philippine edge with weaving warps darned back in. 880 x 850 mm. $670.
