Colour Windows Blue and Green on Red
This series of rugs were inspired by a water-colour paint palette, an illustration in a book on bound-weave and me wanting to frame the areas of colour. I wanted to avoid tapestry techniques (very slow and fiddly) and over-bulky weaves and so I experimented to use three colours in a block weave whilst maintaining a strong durable structure without long floats. The weave I devised used five shuttles, needed extra tie-down warps, and was quite fiddly to set-up but the results justified it. I wove this one on the end of the warp and put the rectangles sideways. This rug is non reversible. Cotton warp wool weft.
