Chromosome Design in Blue and Green

This design was inspired by a photomicrograph of a chromosome which had been stained with fluorescent dyes, one which bound to unfolded (active) regions of DNA and others which bound to specific genes. The final result was published in Nature or similar and was probably a combined constructed image, however it was both beautiful and a tour de force. While the rug is functionally two sided it was designed to show the green chromosome with inlaid colours on a blue background. The weave is 3 end block weave with shaft switching. Finished by oversewing with cotton tape. Cotton warp, wool weft.
